Preparing for Workshops

Learning Objectives

Please first join as a volunteer and sign up to help with a scheduled event.

Once you’ve signed up to help with a session please make sure you’ve done the following before the class:

  • Chosen a role (step) to help with and communicated this to the lead volunteer
  • Read over the workshop agenda
  • Read over any additional material for your specific role
  • Ask any questions in the #cyf-intro-to-digital-course channel on Slack

Frequently Asked Questions from Students

During these sessions you’ll receive lots of questions about all things CYF - Don’t Panic! … If you don’t know the answer to a question you have a few options:

  • Ask another volunteer or the lead volunteer for help

  • Direct the learner to one of the following resources:

    1. FAQ at bottom of study page

    2. FAQ on trainee dashboard page

  • Direct everyone to ITD Slack as a great place to ask questions to the CYF community

If these don’t solve the issue take down their name and contact details along with their question, pass it on to contact@codeyourfuture.io and let them know that we will follow up.

Goals

Learning Objectives

The aim of our workshop is to give “Intro to Digital” learner support whilst they study some basic technical and soft skills as well as sharing insights into the tech industry and inspiring students to continue with their self-study.

Applicants attending the session may be first timers or returners. They will have registered for the ITD course and should have seen and started working on the course material.

Our goal is to welcome, encourage, and support them in their learning journey. It is not to complete the work for them but to help them understand the work and how to complete it.

The goal of this course is to:

Teaching values and guidelines

Learning Objectives

At CYF we believe in empowering our learners by providing them with the support and guidance they need to excel. We work to achieve this by encouraging learners to work together in teams and to practice problem solving together to overcome challenges. This builds the fundamental skills needed to learn and succeed on any of our courses and also in a professional career.

Some principles should be applied when supporting people on this course:

Be positive build on learners’ successes.

Be patient and understanding: learners on this course come from a variety of backgrounds and it may take some longer than others to accomplish tasks.

Encourage self-learning and teamwork: learners should be encouraged to work together to solve problems, these skills are vital for long-term success.

Praise and support: the main objective of the ITD course is to build the confidence of learners and show them that they are capable of learning these skills.

Encourage everyone to talk: leaving questions open to answer will lead to only a few people dominating the conversation. Try to encourage everybody to participate by inviting individuals to answer direct questions.
